Eat, drink and be thirsty.
Still a good motto, but there’s been a few changes in my life. I’m now primarily thirsty for adventure. Since selling my shares of ABV in October 2013, I’ve been trying to spend time doing things I love that I’ve never had much time to do in the past.
The old “About” page:

Thirsty with a mason jar of bourbon. Thanks, Finger Lakes Distilling!

They don’t call me Thirsty for nothing!
My name is Alexis Kahn and I am a thirsty spirit. I enjoy Grand Cru Champagne as well as the Champagne of Beers. You might find me teaching beverage classes at The French Culinary Institute, running brandy through a still, cold brewing coffee at home or drinking PBR while playing Big Buck Hunter at a NYC bar.
This is a blog about beverages (mostly those containing alcohol) – where to find ’em, how to enjoy ’em. I hope you’ll check back often.
My work has appeared in The New York Times, Saveur, New York Magazine, Variety, Cork Savvy and more.
Alexis,
So impressed and proud of you going from “local pub” to The French Culinary Institute. I enjoyed reading your blog and found it to be very informational. I especially enjoyed the coffee section and will try making the coffee “syrup”. My husband is very particular about his coffee and his machine; I will take your suggestion and explore some of the coffees you recommended.
Hi Alexis,
Amazing blog! You’ve given me some great ideas. Look forward to staying tuned…
Cheers,
Mike
I happened upon a link to your site on my facebook page since I am a member of the French Culinary Institute page on FB also. I have found your insights interesting and Fun! My son is planning on hopefully studying at FCI next year and I as a Mother am hoping he gets many chances to learn from you lol. I would have a fantastic time in my kitchen if he learns everything you teach and speak about. I have always held a great interest in viticulture and I hope to gain much more knowledge from you.
Sincerely,
Laura
Thanks, Laura – keep reading! Please feel free to have your son reach out to me if he has any questions about attending the school.
Hey It’s Heidi from Whistle. Great Blog! I have a client that started a farm upstate and I think you may be interested in some of what they have going on. She went to ICE and I’m sure you’ll have people in common. http://www.saltwaterfarm.com She mentioned something about a distillery project and I immediately thought of you. I told her I was going to send something your way.
Thanks, Heidi! I’ll check it out.
As a Christian, I believe I’m to be paeerrpd to meet my Maker at any moment, not that I’m a pessimist. As a Minister of the Gospel, in your personal beliefs, do you believe that the end of the world is coming in 2012 and that we Christians should prepare for the true ‘end’ rather than be seeking places to “ride out the storm” as lots of other folks seem to be doing? The consensus seems to be that the end of the world, ‘as we know it’ is coming, but we just need to survive it and adjust. Do you believe we’re going to have any options?
Hi Alexis! You’re father is so enthusiastic about your accomplishments- as he should be! Your father works with my mother and suggested that I get a hold of you. I am one semester away from my Oenology degree at Cornell. I was told that you know a bit about the new distillery on Seneca. It’s amazing how much the beverage business is continuing to expand in the Finger Lakes! I landed a fabulous internship in a start-up wine analysis lab (the first of it’s kind in the Finger Lakes, I believe!), and I am so excited to be a part of it all!
Hi Alexis,
Great Blog, congratulations !!!
I would like to meet you to present and taste Champagne Charles Heidsieck range
Let me know if it’s possible
Thanks
Antoine
Hi Antoine – thanks for reading! I’ll email you about tasting some Champagne.
Alexis,
Nice to meet you online. I work for Frederick Wildman and handle some amazing wines from South America as well as working as the Brand Ambassador for Chartreuse.
If there is anything I can ever do to assist you in your presentations at FCI (I graduated in 2005) it would be my pleasure.
Regards,
Todd Richman
Alexis,
My name is Ben, and I am a resident advisor at Columbia University. I’m trying to organize a coffee tasting event for residents in December, and I was wondering if you would be interested in participating and helping teach us how to taste and appreciate different coffees. If this is something you’d be interested in, please contact me.
Thanks very much.
Hi Alexis,
I would like to send you an invitation for a Champagne Charles Heidsieck tasting with our winemaker in NYC next week, could you please send me your email adress?
Thanks in advance

Hello. I wanted to write you and present an iPhone and iPod app that has just been released focused on one of the world’s greatest beverages…VODKA!!!
The app is called Vodka Connoisseur and it has been in development for over a year. It is a great and useful vodka database app that will aid any user in discovering the perfect bottle of vodka and learning more about this amazing spirit.
We invite you to take a look at the support website for the app and see if it might be something you are interested in possibly highlighting on your website/blog.
It is the second release in a series of apps being released this year, the first being Rum Connoisseur.
You can preview the iPhone applications here: http://www.spiritApps.com (click on one of the app links).
If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, please send us an email reply to this email and we would be happy to provide you with a complimentary promotion code for either app for you to download and try out the app for free.
We thank you for your consideration and hope you find the app to be interesting.

Salve Alexis!
I just left a message for you on your VM at the International Culinary Center.
I would love to invite you to an exclusive wine tasting event next Monday, June 21 at Vino, here in New York City.
The tasting will begin at 4 PM. We will sample four select Moncaro wines of Le Marche – two Verdicchios and two Coneros. None of these Moncaro varieties are available in the US, yet.
We would be absolutely thrilled if you and any of your colleagues would join us.
I have a formal invite. If you would like me to send it, just let me know.
You can contact me at milenap@vinterra.com.
Grazie mille!
Milena
Dear Alexis,
I recently moved to the city as a catering manager and everyday it becomes clearer to me that I would love to train to be a Sommelier/Beverage Director. I was researching courses and certifications, when I came upon the wine program at the French Culinary Institute. Which is how I fumbled upon your wonderful blog! To tell you the truth, I am still very young and trying to figure out where my passion lies in the hospitality industry. It seems to align with yours! So I am writing you for advice. My goal is to become a Sommelier and I was wondering what certification programs you recommend. I have been looking for an opportunity to truly enjoy my everyday work life and it seems to be a goal that you have achieved. I would appreciate any information and knowledge you can offer me. Feel free to email me at jessicagcohen@gmail.com.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Jessica Cohen

Hi, Alexis
I’m in the Tuesday FCI Fundamentals of Wine class. I blog about nature, so between uncorking bottles I was inspired to look in the infamous louse Phylloxera. You may enjoy the post.
Cheers,

Hi Alexis,
We were at L’Ecole last weekend and loved the Dupree Cocktail! Was wondering if that is your creation and if you would share the recipe. I can get Stone Pine liqueur at Ace Beverage here in DC.
Thanks,
Eric
