Progress report, v. 4

Much has happened since the last progress report.

Mike rented a UHaul to bring our flooring and stools home from Elmira. We unloaded it around 11 pm. It must have been quite a sight.

The team. Happy that 800+ square feet of reclaimed barn wood is off the truck.

We had the stools professionally sand blasted. Here, we are scrubbing and staining them.

We picked up some extra wood. This is being scrubbed in preparation to become the bar soffit.

...which looks like this.

We will also be cleaning up the hood area, with a kitchen soffit, framed here.

Noah assisting Michael with the kitchen bar framing.

The sub flooring went in over two evenings this week. Saving room for a mat at the front.

Our hatch, with 2 coats of rustoleum. One of the best looking in town, for sure.

Our friend Justin came to town to help us install the flooring. They'll wrap up today.

Progress report, v.3

I’m happy to report that things are humming along.

It's thrilling to see so many permits on the front door. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, oh my.

We now have stainless steel in our kitchen.

Framing in the basement is pretty much done. On the left, the electrical room, on the right, our office.

The plumber insulated a pipe running through the wine room.

We re-sealed the brick where the old duct work was.

Today, Michael and I primed the ceiling. Tomorrow, we paint.

I did the trimming while Michael did the rest. Sometimes, it's good to be short.

Gonna build me a wine room

Framing in the basement has begun!

Earlier this week we passed our plumbing rough in inspection with the DOB.  A big thank you to my partners who are making all of this happen while I’m “working” overseas.

Arrivederci Venezia!

GQ’s New Rules of Wine

Found a great article today in the October issue of GQ: The New Rules of Wine.  Some of my favorite lines:

*Of course grapes grown in different places taste different; that’s a banality no one disputes.

*…when you open a bottle of rosé champagne, people understand that you are spoiling them.

*Stop giving the wine list to the oldest, richest-looking dude at every table.

*And for the love of God, don’t sniff the cork.

Worth a full read!
